This is a fun and adventurous meetup. It involves a 1.5 mile hike through the Tijuana Estuary (not in Tijuana) and then along the beach to the border fence. There will be friends from the Mexican side there waiting for us. We'll arrive around 1pm and do a one hour language exchange. The rough format is that we will Speak English only for half the time and then Spanish only for the other half of the time. It's often hard to stick to that exactly, but that's the goal. It's always a great experience for everyone. The people we'll be meeting are people of all ages that want to practice their English and are willing to help people with their Spanish. So if you want to practice your espaņol (I know everyone does :-) with a native speaker living in a Spanish speaking country and are willing to help someone with their English, it should be a lot of fun.

Note - the park is open but there may be an issue with Border Patrol. They know and are usually ok with this (I always tell them ahead of time what's going on). However, they do have complete authority within a certain distance of the fence to change their mind. On the off chance this happens, the back up plan is to go to Tijuana and meet with the folks there at a cool cafe near the center of town (we might do that anyway after for those who are interested and have time to go into Mexico).

Let me know if you have any questions. Gracias, Dan

Sadly its true Darren. Several congressmen have written Obama asking that construction be stopped, so theres still a chance. I may send out an email to the group that will generate a letter calling for a halt.

Is it true that they'll soon be building a second fence, so we won't be able to chat across the border fence?

    •  Turned out to be a great day. The BP didnt let us approach the fence, but it was a beautiful hike along the beach. Afterwards, 6 of us went to a street fest in Colonia Libertad in TJ--music, including legendary guitarist Javier Batist? , art exihibits, food and classic cars galore. Got to hang out with some locals and practice our Spanish. All this, and I only spent about $10. Awesome meetup Dan!
    •  It was at once eye-opening, education, beautiful, intriguing and yet somehow still very comfortable. I recommend for any level Spanish speaker, any range of experience with San Diego and Tijuana. Thank you for taking the time to organize this group!
    •  This was my favorite SD Spanish Meetup so far. Truly both language and cultural exchange.
